Small Business



BACKGROUND

The bill revises and restates the Small Business Act (15 U.S.C. 631 et seq.), the Small Business Investment Act of 1958 (15 U.S.C. 661 et seq.), and related provisions of other Acts as a new positive law title, Title 57, Small Business, of the United States Code.


The bill was prepared by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel as part of the Office's ongoing responsibility under section 205(c) of House Resolution No. 988, 93d Congress, as enacted into law by Public Law 93-554 (2 U.S.C. 285b), to submit to the Committee on the Judiciary proposed bills for the enactment of positive law titles to the United States Code.


MAJOR ACTIONS AND STATUS

  • February 4, 2009.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted a draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 111th Congress.
  • April 21, 2009.—The Chairman and ranking member of the House Committee on the Judiciary introduced the bill as H.R. 1983 (111th Congress).
  • August 6, 2012.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 112th Congress.
  • August 29, 2013.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 113th Congress.
  • June 17, 2015.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 114th Congress.
  • September 20, 2016.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 114th Congress.
  • January 6, 2017.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 115th Congress.
  • August 28, 2017.—The project was redesignated from title 53 to title 57, United States Code.
  • August 28, 2017.—The Office of the Law Revision Counsel submitted an updated draft bill (and accompanying explanation) to the House Committee on the Judiciary for introduction in the 115th Congress.
