§4311. Rifle instruction: issue of rifles and ammunition

The Secretary of the Army may provide for the issue of a reasonable number of standard military rifles, and the sale of such quantities of ammunition as are available, for use in conducting rifle practice at rifle ranges established under section 4309 of this title at which instructors have been detailed under section 4310 of this title.

The word "may" is substituted for the words "shall be authorized to". The word "detailed" is substituted for the word "assigned" to conform to section 4310 of this title. Although the last sentence of section 113 of the Act of June 3, 1916, ch. 134, 39 Stat. 211 , has not previously been codified, it is still in effect (see an opinion of the Judge Advocate General of the Army (JAGA 1954/7321, September 14, 1954)).

Amendments

1990-Pub. L. 101–510 inserted "the sale of" before "such quantities".
